Climbing Acotango

Description

Acotango is an accessible mountain, ideal for those seeking a high-altitude experience in a unique environment. Its ascent takes place in a desert landscape where the characteristic smell of sulfur is easily noticeable. Along the route, you can observe yellowish sulfur crystals as well as the imposing and elegant volcanic pyramids that dominate the horizon within Sajama National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1.- La Paz – Sajama National Park

We will begin our journey early in the morning towards Sajama National Park, a trip of approximately 5 hours. Upon arrival, we will settle in the village of Sajama and, in the afternoon, take a short walk to explore the area. If conditions allow, we will visit the hot springs, where we can enjoy a relaxing bath in a stunning natural setting.

Day 2.- Sajama – Chachacomani – Acotango Ascent (6,052 m) – Return to La Paz

From Sajama, we will head to Chachacomani, a small village near the base of Acotango. From there, we will start our ascent via the Quebrada del Cóndor Jipiña mining route (4,800 m), reaching 5,400 meters by vehicle before beginning the hike.

The ascent to the Acotango summit will take between 4 and 5 hours, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding volcanoes and landscapes. After reaching the top, we will begin our descent and head to the village of Tambo Quemado, where we will take a break to resupply and enjoy a well-deserved lunch. Finally, we will start our return journey to La Paz.
