Nevado Sajama, standing at an impressive 6,542 meters, is the highest peak in Bolivia and one of the most iconic mountains of the Western Cordillera. While its ascent is not highly technical, it presents a physical challenge due to the altitude and freezing temperatures. The reward: breathtaking panoramic views and the satisfaction of conquering the highest mountain in the country.

Itinerary

Day 1: La Paz – Sajama – Base Camp (4,800 m)

Departure from La Paz towards the town of Sajama (4-hour drive).

From Wincurata, we begin a 3-hour trek to Base Camp (4,800 m), surrounded by an awe-inspiring volcanic landscape.

Day 2: Base Camp – High Camp Sajama (5,700 m)

4 to 5-hour ascent to High Camp, located on a ridge with stunning views of the Altiplano. The terrain consists of rocky and moraine sections, with increasing wind and cold.

Porters will assist with equipment transportation to optimize effort.

Day 3: High Camp – Sajama Summit (6,542 m) – Descent to Base Camp

Challenging 7-hour ascent to the summit. From the top, we will enjoy an unforgettable view of the Western Cordillera and the surrounding volcanoes.

Descent follows the same route, first to High Camp and then down to Base Camp to rest and recover.

Day 4: Base Camp – Wincurata – Return to La Paz

Hike back to Wincurata, with a stop to relax in the hot springs before the return trip to La Paz.
